Extra time in McMurdo meant an opportunity to see some seals! Apparently these things are so insulated that sometimes snow can fall on them and stay frozen.

To camp

Elevation and cold are brutal for equipment, so in the end we were not light and fast, but rather puttered around with a 10 kw diesel generator.

We towed the radar behind a Pisten Bully, which is much cushier than a snowmachine.

We had quite a train behind the Pisten Bully. Antenna panels in blue, generator in the metal sled-the -plan was much more elegant for generators, but the cold and elevation are a real problem.

After a week of long days of work, we dragged our home back to Concordia.

We flew back via Mario Zucchelli to McMurdo. Landing at Mario Zucchelli in the Twin Otter was a real treat.

Enigma

The best part of our brief stay at Mario Zucchelli was a whole bunch of penguins!
